Enhancing User Engagement: A Call for Visible Claps and Comments on Medium’s Homepage
Dear Medium Team,
The recent update in the Medium Partner Program has shifted the measure of an article’s value from “Reading Time” to “Engagement Point.” This change signifies Medium’s keen interest in fostering reader interactions and comments below articles. However, there’s a missing link in the user experience that I’d like to argue.
While browsing the Medium Homepage, readers cannot see the number of Claps and Comments an article has garnered unless they click into the article.
From my observation and experience, the average number of comments on Medium articles is considerably lower than on other platforms. Platforms like Twitter, Reddit, and Facebook often witness a surge of comments on their content. So, why is Medium lagging behind in this aspect?
As a regular reader, I’ve noticed that the willingness to comment on an article is directly proportional to the existing number of comments. If an article already has a plethora of discussions, a new reader is more inclined…
