A Boy Drowned in Swimming Pool While an Adult Bystander Watching the Event Idly. Is He Guilty?
On October 1st, 2023, a tragedy happened in Sichuan, China. A young boy was swimming in the pool, but he accidentally lost his swimming ring and started struggling in the pool for almost 1 minute. He sank to the bottom until 7 minutes later.

According to Chinese law, all swimming pools should be equipped with a lifeguard. On that day, the swimming pool did not have a lifeguard, so there is no doubt that the swimming pool owner will bear legal responsibility.
But at the same time, another very controversial issue emerged. While the boy was drowning, there was another adult male swimming next to him. The adult male witnessed the boy’s drowning but did not offer any help or even call for help from surrounding staff.
